A study on happiness, the results of which will be published in the journal ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences’ shows something many people have suspected – that older people are happier.
This researchers studied 340,000 people and arrived at the conclusion that there are several possible reasons that may explain why older people are happier.
The few points raised are:-
– older people are better in controlling their emotions;
– nostalgia, that older people harbor fewer negative memories;
– older people might focus less on what they have or have not achieved, thus they dwell more on how to get the most out of the rest of their lives.
It would be interesting to know what other reasons they have managed to uncover.
Last week I just finished a book entitled – ‘ The Five secrets you must discover before you die’.
The author interviewed 200 people, ages ranging from 60 – 106. Each of these people interviewed is identified by their friends and acquaintances as ‘the one person they knew who had found happiness and meaning’ in life. It is an interesting book, the ‘gems’ expressed by the senior citizens are worth remembering and reflecting.
Get a copy and read it. Oh, I forget to give you the author, he’s John Izzo.
Thank you for visiting.
