Malaysia’s Oldest Temple – The Cheng Hoon Teng

The Cheng Hoon Teng (the Clear Clouds Temple) is the oldest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The temple was built in 1645,  in 2003 it won the UNESCO award for architectural restoration. The locals called it the ‘Kuan Imm Teng’ because it houses the Boddhisattva Kuan Yin or the Goddess of Mercy. It is a highly venerated temple amongst the Chinese population here because it is believed the Goddess answers most of the heartfelt prayers offered to Her. Don’t fail to pay it a visit when you are in Malacca.  You can find it in Jalan Tokong or the ‘Temple Street’. It is a major tourist destination for many foreign visitors.
