In the hustle and bustle of daily lives, in the mad rush of trying to meet deadlines, we end up most of the time freaked out, burnt out, feeling tensed and agitated. We become quick to anger, unhappy, irritable and we make ourselves vulnerable. Most of us don’t really know how to handle such situations. Fortunately, we have people who have answers for us, these are people who have spent years seeking the peace, calm, freshness and solidity we want in our daily lives.
The methods they have seeked and have attained are now made available to us to help us navigate through our daily choppy seas. These are simple techniques and what is more wonderful is that they work! That’s if we are prepared to do our part, which is to spend only few minutes each day to practise them.
Thich Nhat Hanh, an accomplished meditation master, has perfected a few simple breathing exercises to help us through our days:
- The Space Free Meditation – to bring space, both inner and outer space, to others and to ourselves. He says space is the symbol of liberty, thus creating space in our lives is giving liberty to others and to ourselves.
- The Flower Fresh Meditation – this exercise brings freshness to those around us and to ourselves. With such freshness, only then can we be happy. With the happiness we can enjoy what we are doing.
- The Mountain Solid Meditation – without being solid we are agitated, vulnerable and breakable. If we do this simple exercise, we can bring stability to our body which in turn, can bring stability to our mind. If we were to practise this technique, we would be able to handle our emotions and not feel overwhelmed by the destructive emotions.
- The Water Reflecting Meditation - this is to help bring calmness into our lives. For without calmness we distort what others say and do, we do not receive the messages of others and we do not receive the truth from other human beings.
These four simple techniques are audio meditations which can be accessed at http://www.oprah.com/media/20080731/_orig_ThichNhatHanh
Sincerely believe these are useful to bring calm and happiness to us and to others who share our daily activities.

Hi, you have got a nice blog. I have started a blog too. It’s about reviewing other blogs. This way i place a short description, a snapshot and a backlink to your blog. In return, I ask for a back link from your blog.
Check it out at blogtag.co.cc .
This entry is so timely for me. I have been reflecting so fully on my growth in the last couple of years. And, besides how effective I am sure these meditations are, just the descriptors tell me how essential they are for overall balance in our lives. Including the natural elements, we need to be still, have balance and light so that we can stay strong and serene.
Have a blessed day!!!!
Most happy, it serves its purpose. May you be stable, calm, fresh and free.
